Our history
1981 - Honours
Michael McVeigh, a first-class honours student, graduates from the School of Civil Engineering from the University of Queensland. He was registered as a Professional Engineer by the Board of Professional Engineers of Queensland in 1987 and remains registered to this day. Michael moves to London to work in his first job at ARUP. After 3 years, he returned to Toowoomba and formed an engineering consultancy business with two business partners.
1985 - Foundation
Michael branched out and established his own company, McVeigh Consultants, in a small office in Toowoomba with two staff and the business begins to flourish. Michael was elected a member of The Institution of Engineers Australia in 1987. He was further elected as a Fellow Chartered Professional Engineer of the Institution of Engineers Australia in Civil College and Structural College in 2013. He remains a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers to this day.
1990 - Brisbane
Michael transitions to the next stage of growth and moves to Brisbane. Operations continue at Fortitude Valley. Over the next few years, Michael began establishing wider connections in the industry and builds his reputation as an innovator and trusted advisor to multiple clients in the property and development industry across Australia. He drives a client-centric service delivery model and beings to build a work portfolio with clients, many of whom who are still working with the McVeigh team today.
2019 - Building Trust
Michael and the McVeigh team formed strong partnership with their trusted clients and colleagues’ in the property and engineering industry. This elevated its architecture and structural and civil engineering business, making them the industry’s most prominent consultancy for industrial, commercial, logistics and property development work. Industry competition increases with key McVeigh alumni.
2018 - Contributions
Michael McVeigh chairs Property Council of Australia’s industrial committee between 2017- 2018. As Committee Chair, he guided the activities, contribute to the organisation’s agenda, and provided invaluable expertise and assistance in championing the industry’s interests.
2008 - Established
Michael purchases a block of land in the heart of the Brisbane business district and opens McVeigh Consultants head office. 85% of McVeigh’s business is repeat clients and referrals, which is remarkable statement on client satisfaction. McVeigh achieves this by focusing on what the client really wants and listening to their needs. Building on his experience, the business continues to practice as an integrated design firm.
2021 - Growth
More employees were welcomed aboard, resulting in a broader range of skills sets and industry experience - one that will bring forth bigger projects and expansion into such as residential units, retail and shopping malls, schools, large commercial and civil infrastructure works.
2022 - Regeneration
Brings onboard new CEO, Jane Won with 30 years’ industry experience to revitalise the company to better align with the current environment. The McVeigh brand is revamped. Changes are made to resourcing, service lines and the company logo which is changed but retains McVeigh’s core values of Client, Team, Design & Performance.
2023 - Upwards
McVeigh continues to produce top quality output for industrial, commercial, and real estate properties. Civil infrastructure has also been added to the list of services. It proudly celebrates its 35th birthday with its revamped senior team.
Celebrating 35 Years of Success
Michael started his career in Toowoomba, before heading overseas to work for top engineering firms. He came back to Brisbane a passionate, highly driven visionary and began McVeigh Consultants, an innovative, multi-disciplinary business.
